# The Cost of Entry: Establishing a Place in the Competition

Before one may hold a **ticket**, before one may be counted among the **participants**, they must first **establish their existence within the competition**.

* The **first time a wallet purchases a ticket for a specific competition**, a [**PDA (Program Derived Address)** ](https://solana.com/docs/core/pda)**must be opened in their name**.
* This **one-time action** binds the participant to the competition, marking them as **a true believer** in the competition they have entered.
* The cost of this **account creation** is paid by the participant **at the time of their first ticket purchase**.

Once this step is completed, they **may buy as many tickets as they wish (**[**up to 100**](/blind-faith/the-trial/publish-your-docs/the-law-of-participation/the-limits-of-faith-the-100-ticket-rule.md)**)**, but they **can never erase the mark of their participation**.

There is **no turning back**, no reclaiming what has been given.

To purchase a ticket is to **commit fully**. It is an **offering made without promise, without expectation—only with faith**.
